The children jumped down from their school bus last week, belting out with gusto the first verse and chorus. And then just yesterday they remembered the second verse and chorus, singing it as we left home for Chinese New Year visiting.
It’s been a real hit; I didn’t even know English versions of popular Chinese New Year songs existed, let alone a Christian version.
In the streets of Chinatown
Just like all the years before
You will hear on New Year’s Day
Cheerful gong xi gong xi
Gong xi gong xi gong xi ni ya
Gong xi gong xi gong xi ni
Welcome to the family
Jesus is our Lord and King
Ruler of the universe
Ruler over you and me
Praise Him praise Him praise the Lord
Praise Him praise Him praise His Name
(sung to the Tune of Gong Xi Gong Xi Gong Xi Ni)
